World Cup

It’s been a long time since I last blogged. I know, lazy me. There’s not much to write about and as I’m no wordsmith, words doesn’t come out easily.  Life has been good with the normal ups and downs. I’m enjoying being married more and more each day and it’s nice to have someone to come home to and share your life with. It would be dull and lonely without a special person next to you.

The World Cup has come and gone. For a football fan, it’s the time to celebrate the world game and the endless late night/early morning for 1 month. It’s the first time that I’m watching the world cup with my wife. I’m lucky that she’s into football as not many ladies follow it.

The 2010 edition was full of surprises and disappointment. The level that was shown by few top teams were not up to scratch. Some of them deserved to go home (e.g. Italy and France) while some were lucky to get out of the group stage.  As the tournament moved along to the knock-out stage, it starts to get more and more interesting. Sadly, ENGLAND was embarrassed by a youthful Germany squad. The ‘goal that wasn’t to be’ had a played a part but honestly; it wouldn’t matter as the English lads were not good enough and didn’t warrant a win.

On to the final; SPAIN vs NETHERLANDS. A rough encounter that would have seen 2 players sent off within the first 20 minutes if not for the fact that it was the final. Netherlands was playing ugly to disrupt the beautiful flow of the Spanish team and it was painful and frustrating to watch at time. Both team were unable to break the deadlock during the normal time and it was on the 116th minutes that Iniesta gave Spain it’s well deserved win and their first World Cup. What an end to the tournament. It’s a pity that we would have to wait for another 4 years for the next instalment in Brazil. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted but back to the normal routine :)
